What do people do on a lovely November day in the south of France? They go to a Christmas market. A huge and fabulous market here in Languedoc is the Château Cassan Christmas Cracker Fair which is put on by Languedoc Living.
Languedoc Living generously donated a wonderful space for LSR to use and we set up a stand with informational material, a tombola, and face painting to entertain the children. Many people stopped by and asked for information and some offered to do volunteer work. A donation box was well used and the tombola was popular with many. Face painting was great fun for all and a big success. We had French speaking volunteers to help with explaining the work of LSR.
The main objectives of our stand were to increase awareness of LSR’s activities and raise money to support them. We feel both were achieved.
At the request of a group of volunteers in Montpellier, we made a big delivery of bedding to an apartment that is being readied for refugees from Afghanistan.
We continue to make our weekly food deliveries to the Syrian families we are supporting in Beziers. The paperwork for several of them is progressing and we hope to have some families officially documented as asylum seekers and placed in government supported living spaces soon.
Collecting food is an ongoing effort, and not an easy one. Anyone willing to share his or her bounty, please contact us.
